Church nave

The central nave of the second church

Taking advantage of the nave height, a second floor plan was created when the original ground level was flooded.

New doors and windows were opened and it looks like a second church built on top of the original one.
The purpose was to use the primitive church as a support to the new one, expecting that the lower foundations were already standing on solid rock.

However, the new church also sank slowly, albeit at a much lower speed, and the Monastery was eventually abandoned in 1677.
