Photographs of Alfama, Lisbon

  My first photo album. Designed for 3.0 browsers, hand coded, with an interface borrowed from the presentations of the scientific papers. The imperfections and naïveté of a first attempt are clearly visible.

  It's a very colourful album, straightforward to browse. It's about one of the most touristic districts in Lisbon, Portugal. Notwithstanding, I tried to capture the characteristics of the houses and the people, beyond the postcard images. The visitor is the judge on whether I succeeded or not.

EXPO'98 in Lisbon, Portugal, by night and by day

  The After Eight EXPO album is my opera magna. Totally bilingual and hand coded it "weighs" 4.4Mb. The first version with 89 pages and 2.4 Mb was quite large, then new pages were added (mostly daily photos) up to 123 pages.

  I decided to close it and open a second album, simpler, to gather the photos on the EXPO'98 site taken after the exhibition. This album will be always open and it will grow at the pace of my visits to the site. The navigation is simple: there's an index page and the index is repeated on the bottom of each page.

  The first album was a demanding task, especially the translation work, which is not exciting or rewarding. After this album, I dreamed of simple and small. That's how the third album was born: "Paris la nuit ... et le matin".

Nocturne album in Portuguese and English, created in two phases in 1998 and 1999. 123 pages with an average size of 32Kb.
Daily album in Portuguese and English with six pages and 28 photos with an average size of 24Kb. There are larger versions available for each photo.

Paris la nuit ... et le matin - photographs of Paris, France

  A small and simple album, without JavaScript.
  Some photos, a couple of days at home, sick and bored in bed, and the wish to make it unimpassioned shaped the design.

  The sliding bar is all you need to walk along the "wall" where the photos are exhibited.

Album in French with introductory notes in Portuguese and English, created in 1999. 6 pages and 31 photos with an average size of 23Kb.
Recommended browsers: 4.0 or later. Minimum window: 800x600.

Notes on JavaScript and Cascading Style Sheets

1. The albums use JavaScript and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). Make sure these options are activated in your browser.
2. JavaScript is never used to capture and or transmit data to a server without the user consent. It is used only to control the content layout.
3. If your browser does not run JavaScript and/or CSS the contents may still be viewed although some buttons may not work.
4. Even though you're using JavaScript and CSS you may find minor layout errors, due to variations in browsers and computers.
5. Follow the links to open the albums without using JavaScript. A new window will open; adjust its size to get an optimal view.
